What is FTTH technology?

  • We all are talking a lot about the FTTH in this forum, but many people may not know what it actually is. I would like to share a brief what it is.

Fiber to the home technology is used to delivery communications signal over optical fibre from the operator's switching equipment to a business or home, thereby replacing copper cables such as telephone wires and coaxial cable. It is a much better and faster way to get broadband, and has the speed and reliability of cable Internet service. However a fiber connection is more expensive than a standard DSL connection. Telecommunication companies developing FTTH technology plan to support 100+ Mbps bandwidth per home.

  • Fiber to the home (FTTH), also called "fiber to the premises" is the installation and use of optical fiber from a central point directly to individual buildings such as residences, apartment buildings and businesses to provide unprecedented high-speed Internet access.
